The 65-gallon cart is gray in color and will hold approximately two and half times what the normal size container holds.

Questions & Answers

What do I do when I get my cart?

Place automated carts in your designated collection area (in front of
the residence or in the alley) on the street with the wheels against the
curb or on the edge of the roadway. Arrows on the lid should point toward
the street. Avoid placing carts next to obstructions, such as parked cars,
utility poles, etc. Please be careful not to place carts in areas of
traffic, such as bike lanes, in order to avoid blocking paths of travel. Collection times may vary so have your carts out by 6:00 a.m.

Can I use regular garbage cans and set them out for collection if my cart fills before trash day?

No. All garbage must fit into your cart with the lid closed. Please refer to your list of what's recyclable to see if you can recycle more and eliminate some of what you are placing out as garbage. Our trucks will only collect garbage placed in these gray carts.

What if the lid on my new cart is warped?

There's is no reason to worry. Cart lids are often warped upon delivery. They will conform with some warm weather and look perfect.

What should I do with my regular trash cans?

You can still use those containers for your green waste. If you no longer want them, call us and we'll pick them up free of charge. The green waste service will remain manually collected.

Why not offer multiple sizes?

Determining the size of the cart best suited for all our customers was a task we took very seriously. The answer is simple, cost. Cities that have provided an option for cart size have experienced substantial increases in costs relative to record keeping, cart size switching, and warehousing of multiple carts to name a few. Those costs are always past down to the residents; something neither Escondido Disposal nor the City of Escondido is interested in doing.
